eDisclosure

eDisclosure (sometimes called eDiscovery or litigation support) combines forensic disciplines with data mining to reduce a large amount of unsorted data down to a smaller amount of relevant data.eDisclosure

What is eDisclosure?

The basic premiss is to take in data from a wide range of sources; laptops, workstations, smart phones, email servers, instant messaging, SharePoint, file servers, voice recordings, back-ups, etc. and to search across this entire pool of data to draw out the information that is of specific interest. In some cases this means first acquiring the raw data in a forensic image, in other cases it is possible to directly query a live server. It is also possible to convert paper into electronic media and then to search this accordingly.

Like any search, the output is only as good as the search criteria and that is where good eDisclosure consultants make the difference. Using hard-won experience and an excellent understanding of the tools available, it is possible to open up the search criteria to cater for variance, misspelling, word substitution and other exceptions without returning an unwieldy amount of data.

Do you need a rapid response team?

We operate a rapid response team capable of delivering eDisclosure (aka eDiscovery, litigation support) at very short notice – potentially even starting on the same day.

Having developed an efficient process for handling these urgent requests, it is possible to smoothly manage the inbound enquiry through commercials and initial scoping to ensure that the consultants are effective from the second that they are formally engaged.

Throughout this project initiation phase, our intention is to support the process rather than just provide a service. This includes optimising initial searches in the form of early case assessment, which uses fewer search teams and a reduced dataset to provide an early indication of outcome. We encourage clients to think about potential future requirements. Simple steps taken now, such as requesting that IT support take additional back-ups, can save considerable effort later on.

Why Portcullis for eDisclosure?

We are keen to separate ourselves from our eDisclosure (aka eDiscovery, litigation support) competition at a commercial level. Portcullis has partnered with ZyLAB to provide a commercial model that does not incur a per-gigabyte charge for searching data, which means that you only pay for our consultancy time. There is a strong desire to move clients from ad hoc projects to a more effective planned approach, increasing efficiency and reducing cost. Seeking innovative ways to use eDisclosure is one part of this, but we are also keen for clients to run their own projects on their own systems. We’re happy to share our knowledge to facilitate this business function to support our clients in their use of eDisclosure as much as possible.

Portcullis comes to eDisclosure from a forensics background and with real technical expertise. eDisclosure software is designed to work on ‘current’ data, which means that deleted data cannot be searched. We are experts in recovering deleted data, so it is possible to first undertake recovery before conducting searches against this ‘missing’ information. We cater for a range of devices, meaning that it is possible to conduct eDisclsorue exercises against iPhones, iPads, Android devices, Blackberrys and other unconventional devices, portable or otherwise.
