Not every environment slots nicely into the established penetration testing categories such as infrastructure, application, mobile device or wireless testing. This may be because a solution draws on elements of all of the above, is a legacy system, utilises new technology, uses established technologies in new ways or uses very sector-specific technology. Does this mean that it cannot be tested? Certainly not; if anything, such challenging circumstances draw out the best in Portcullis.

Such a test starts by establishing the potential attack vectors and discussing the threat posed by each of these. With the potential threats understood, these form the foundation of a test plan with an appropriate test methodology for each particular risk. It is likely that many of the tests will draw on existing techniques and toolkits, but where required custom code, test harness and manual testing will be utilised.
