It was possible to access a URL that allowed unauthenticated access
to sensitive configuration change functionality, and also revealed the database connection
string (including authentication credentials) used by TimeLive to access the database.

The following URL was identified:



An attacker could perform any of the following actions without needing to login:

  • Connect to the database and obtain encrypted password hashes of all TimeLive users,
    to attempt an off-line password cracking attack.
  • Connect to the database and change an user’s password, by setting the hash value
    to that of a known password.
  • Connect to the database and modify the ’AccountRoleId’ value to elevate a user (E.g.
    themselves) to Administrator level (Role Id 1).
  • Connect to the database and obtain telephone number(s) entered of employees.
  • Specify a new “System Admin” password without having to supply the current
  • Change the email configuration used by TimeLive to send messages.
  • Change the “Authentication Type” configuration to specify a server controlled by the
    attacker, in order to obtain user’s authentication credentials
